The Old House at Home, Romsey | A white dumbbell with a shadow on a white background.

The Old House at Home in Romsey is a Grade II listed public house that dates back to the 17th century. It stands out as Romsey's only remaining thatched-roof pub and has been serving ale for roughly 500 years.

Once one of Romsey's last independent brew pubs, it continued brewing its own beer on-site until 1926.

Legend has it that the transition from pewter tankards to glass contributed to the cessation of its brewing operations, as patrons began to anticipate clear beer instead of the pub’s traditional cloudy ale.

For many years, locals affectionately referred to the establishment as "The Spotted Cow." This nickname originated from a tale in which a missing cow belonging to the then-owner, Mr. Smith, was eventually discovered standing inside the premises.
